about lean think
Lean Think was founded by Julie, a chemistry teacher with over 14 years of experience, who has successfully applied Lean principles in education for the past nine years. Julie’s practical knowledge and dedication to transforming education have impacted hundreds of classrooms and countless educators. A Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Julie combines her expertise in teaching with proven process improvement strategies to empower teachers and students alike.

Lean Think’s workshops and resources are grounded in the Lean ideology popularized by Toyota Production Systems—an incremental process improvement approach that can be applied to everything. Whether in the classroom, home, or workplace, Lean transforms systems by focusing on removing waste and adding value.

Utilized in hundreds of classrooms, Lean principles are backed by data proving that doing less truly achieves more—from improved student performance and teacher job satisfaction to greater home efficiency and life enjoyment.

Lean Education: Transforming Classrooms and Empowering Teachers
Lean is changing the way we think about education. Teachers who have implemented Lean principles in their classrooms report significant improvements:
-
Increased job satisfaction and work-life balance.
-
Enhanced student performance and engagement.
-
More time reclaimed—teachers are spending less time outside contract hours while achieving better results.
The best part? Lean simplifies processes, helping educators focus on what truly adds value. Students are learning more, teachers are feeling less overwhelmed, and everyone benefits.
With Lean Education, teachers are doing less and getting more—for themselves, their students, and their schools.
family tidbits
Gregg and Julie have been happily married for 30 years and are proud parents of five incredible daughters. Three are married, and all are pursuing advanced education and careers in STEM and healthcare fields, including computer science, microbiology, nursing, and physical therapy.

With a shared passion for problem-solving and efficiency, Gregg and Julie combine their expertise in engineering and education to bring Lean principles to classrooms and beyond, helping others achieve more by doing less.

Gregg is a Lead Field Engineer for a safety organization. His forte is quality engineering. He has performed thousands of compliance safety inspections, worked with hundreds of manufacturers and taught numerous trainings the past 25 years. Additionally, he is a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt using his skills to benefit both his company and the manufacturers he works with. Gregg provides creativity and ingenuity in removing waste and improving processes to ensure consistent, high quality products.

Julie teaches Advanced Placement Chemistry and Concurrent Enrollment Chemistry at a public high school. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Weber State University, teaching CHEM 1110 and CHEM 1115 to high school students. With a degree in chemistry from the University of Utah and a Master of Arts in Teaching Science from Western Governors University, Julie brings a unique blend of industry and academic experience to her teaching. Before transitioning to education, she worked as an organic chemist in an environmental laboratory and later dedicated 15 years to raising her five daughters before returning to the classroom.

Frustrated by the long hours of teaching and prepping during her early career, Julie discovered Lean principles and implemented them in her second year of teaching. The results were transformative:
-
She reclaimed her time, achieving balance between work and home.
-
Her students’ performance improved dramatically.
-
Her chemistry professional learning community saw significant growth in student outcomes.

Inspired by these successes, Julie earned her Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and began sharing Lean principles with educators. Over the past nine years, she has taught Lean Education Workshops for the State, District, School, and Department levels. These workshops have helped over 1,000 educators streamline their processes, reduce stress, and improve both teacher satisfaction and student success.

Lean is more than a strategy—it’s a mindset that empowers educators to do less and achieve more, revolutionizing classrooms, homes, and workplaces alike.
